Iwasa's Equalizer Not Enough Against No. 7 Lobos

Box Score

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- Cameron Iwasa's heroics pushed the No.7 Lobos of New Mexico into overtime, but the Lobos needed some heroics of their own to get the game-winner with just over a minute left in the second overtime to drop the Anteaters Sunday afternoon in the TLC Lobo Invitational.

New Mexico (5-1-0) took the lead in the 60th minute and held a constant advantage of the possession throughout the half.

With 30 seconds left, UCI (3-3-1) broke out on the attack and drew a foul in the attacking third. The resulting opportunity was directed into the box and punched away right to sophomore Cameron Iwasa who buried the rebound from the top of the box to keep the 'Eaters' hopes alive with three seconds remaining.

Keeper Michael Breslin was on his toes making a save in every period of the match including three in extra time.

New Mexico had the final say as Carson Baldinger headed the winner in with one minute and three seconds remaining in the second overtime sending UCI to its fourth straight winless result.

Breslin finished with seven saves on the match after facing 18 shots.

Iwasa now shares the team lead with three goals.

For the Anteaters, they next head to Corvallis, Ore. for the Oregon State Nike Classic as they take on Gonzaga Fri. Sept. 21st at 2:00 p.m. followed by the Beavers of Oregon State at 12:00 p.m. on Sun. Sept. 23rd.
