AUSTIN, Tex. ---- UC Irvine senior Jacob Yowell tied his personal-best time in the 110-meter hurdles quarterfinals at the NCAA West Preliminary Round Saturday.

He had a time of 13.91 to finish fifth in his heat and was 17th of the 27 competitors in the quarterfinals Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Tex.  The top 12 finishers advance to the NCAA Championships in June.

Yowell initially posted that time of 13.91 in setting a meet record in his win at UCI's Spring Invitational in March.  The time ranks No. 2 in Anteater history.

The 'Eaters' 4x400 relay of Dominic Jester, Yowell, Chris Carson and Charles Jock placed sixth in their heat with a time of 3:10.43 and finished 16th overall in the field of 24 teams competing Saturday.  The top 12 from the quarters move on to the NCAAs.

Jock will represent UCI in the NCAA Championships June 6-9 when he competes in the 800 meters at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.  He was runner-up in the event a year ago.
