NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- UC Irvine was held to one hit in the final seven innings, losing to Cal State Northridge, 5-4, Sunday at Matador Field.
Ryan Raslowsky led off the ninth against Race Parmenter with a single to left and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Following an intentional walk, Steven Keller hit a groundball to short, putting Raslowsky at third and Nate Ring lined a 2-2 pitch to left-centerfield to drive in the game-winning run.
The Anteaters started the day with a four-run lead. Jordan Fox cashed in a Tommy Reyes double in the top of the first to put UCI on the board. In the top of the second, D.J. Crumlich extended UCI's lead to two with his second single of the day to drive in Jerry McClanahan and it was Reyes' turn to deliver as the second baseman doubled in Ryan Cooper and Crumlich to give the 'Eaters a 4-0 advantage.
The Matadors battled back to cut the lead in half in the third. Phillip Ferragamo issued a leadoff walk to Kyle Attl and Michael Livingston singled to put runners on first and second. Following a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Raslowsky, Cal Vogelsang hit a two-run single up the middle.
CSUN tied it up in the fifth, reeling off three straight hits, including an RBI single from Keller and a sacrifice fly from Ring against reliever Jimmy Litchfield.
Starter Harley Holt pitched five innings, giving up four runs on eight hits but reliever Vincent Roberts kept the Anteaters off balance, striking out four in 3.1 shutout innings. Louis Cohen faced the final two batters in the UCI ninth and picked up the win to improve to 7-2.
Reliever Mitch Merten kept the Matadors off the board for 2.1 innings, walking one and allowing a hit. Parmenter would fall to 1-2 with the loss.
Reyes led UCI with two runs on two hits while Fox and Crumlich each drove in a run on two hits.
