LA QUINTA, Calif. --- Redshirt freshman Pete Fernandez and sophomore Allan Jun led UC Irvine at the Big West Conference Men's Golf Championship that concluded Tuesday at the La Quinta Mountain Course.
Fernandez shot a 2-under 70 in the final round to finish ninth at 1-under par 215. He recorded five birdies on Tuesday as he earned his fourth top-10 showing this season.
Jun also placed ninth at 215 after shooting 1-under 71. He also carded five birdies in his final round for his third top-10 finish in 2011-12.
Junior Michael Yang shot a 73 Tuesday to finish 14th at 217. Redshirt sophomore Ryan Knapp had a 75 and placed 23rd at 221 while junior Mickey Chan also shot a 75 to finish 39th at 230.
UCI finished sixth in the team competition with a 54-hole total of 868. UC Davis won the title at 858, Long Beach State was one shot back at 859 and Cal State Fullerton third at 861.
Alex Edfort of Pacific shot a 5-under 67 in the final round to earn medalist honors at 13-under 203.
