TEMPE, Ariz. --- The UC Irvine men's golf team is in 12th place after Friday's opening two rounds of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational at Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.
The Anteaters carded a 36-hole total of 592. San Diego State leads the 17-team tournament with a two-round total of 557, followed by California (561) and New Mexico (565) entering Saturday's final round.
Alex Kang of San Diego State (68-65) and host Arizona State's Austin Quick (66-67) are tied for the individual lead at 9-under par 133.
UCI redshirt freshman Pete Fernandez is in 25th place at 144 (72-72). Allan Jun and Michael Yang each shot rounds of 72-76 and are tied for 39th at 148.
Ryan Knapp is in 69th place at 153 (77-76) while Zack Duan is 86th at 157 (82-75).
