INDIAN WELLS, Calif. --- UC Irvine tooks its first step towards a three-peat with a 4-0 sweep over the UC Riverside Highlanders Friday at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

UCI (7-16, 3-2) jumped on the Highlanders early with an early doubles point. Ryan Cheung and Jon Kazarian scored the clincher with an identical, 8-2, score as Fabian Matthews and Shuhei Shibahara in the No. 3.

Singles saw two quick points from Shibahara and Cheung at No. 5 and No. 6. Sam Gould scored the finishing blow with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 over UCR (6-17, 0-5) Highlander Jimmy Roberts.

The win sets up a semifinal match against the UCSB Gauchos Sat. Apr. 28th at 11:00 a.m. UCI fell early in the season, 5-2, to UCSB.
