Connor Spencer Hits His Way To Big West Award

IRVINE, Calif. --- Connor Spencer (Trabuco Canyon/Tesoro HS) was named the Big West Player of the Week after hitting .533 (8 for 15) to lead UC Irvine to a 3-1 week, including a three-game sweep over Pacific to open Big West Conference action.

The freshman, who is hitting .426 on the year, had multiple hits in three of four games. He was 2 for 4 against USC and then tripled and scored to put UCI on the board in the series opener against Pacific. He reached safely in all four plate appearances that night and chipped in a hit Saturday.

In the series finale Spencer's single drove in a run as part of UCI's three-run first inning and he also laced his team-leading fifth triple, finishing the day 3 for 4 with two RBI. It was the second time Spencer posted a three-hit game this year and he is second on the team with 10 multiple-hit games and tied for first with four multiple-RBI games.

The award is the first for Spencer, who has 29 hits and 14 RBI for the 'Eaters.

Spencer and the Anteaters continue Big West action in a key match-up at Cal Poly beginning Thursday (Apr. 5).
