Kennedy, Jock, Yowell Lead 'Eaters at Big West Challenge

 

FULLERTON, Calif. --- Mike Kennedy, Charles Jock and Jacob Yowell led UC Irvine in the Big West Challenge Sunday at Cal State Fullerton.

Kennedy won the 100 meters in 10.63 and led off UCI's 4x100 relay that finished first in 41.49.  Other members of the relay were Chris Carson, Dominic Jester and Yowell.

Kennedy also finished third in the long jump with a mark of 22-5 ¼.

Jock won the 400 meters with a time of 47.17 and he anchored UCI's 4x400 relay that was runner-up in 3:11.49.  Carson, Yowell and Jester ran the first three legs.

Yowell won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.19.

Steven Melena was second in the 3,000 meters in 8:29.75 and Trevor Wightman finished third in the 400-meter hurdles (54.43).  Brett Matejka (9:25.5) and Tommy Newton-Neal (9:28.0) were third and fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Jester placed third in the 200 meters with a time of 22.01 while Cam Mitchell was third in the 800 meters (1:51.75).

Riley Martin was fourth in the 1500 meters in 3:52.31 and fifth in the 800 meters (1:55.13).

Stephen Brown finished second in the pole vault with a height of 16-0 ¾ and Alex Campbell was third in the high jump at 6-8 ¾.

The 'Eaters placed third in the team competition as Long Beach finished first.

UCI will have some representatives competing at the Mt. SAC Relays next weekend with the majority of the team at the Long Beach Invitational Saturday.
