'Eaters Climb 2 Spots to Finish 8th at Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. --- The UC Irvine men's golf team moved up two spots in the final round to finish eighth in the 66th annual Western Intercollegiate that concluded Sunday at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz.

Top-ranked Texas won the 14-team tournament with a 54-hole total of 1,060, followed by Stanford (1,064) and UCLA (1,067).  UCI had a three-round total of 1,122.

Patrick Rodgers of Stanford shot a 2-under 68 Sunday to earn medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 4-under 206.  UCLA's Patrick Cantlay and New Mexico State's Justin Shin tied for second at 208.

UCI sophomore Allan Jun finished 23rd at 219 after a 73 in the final round.  Redshirt freshman Pete Fernandez shot even-par 70 Sunday to place 28th at 220.

Ryan Knapp (75) finished 45th at 225, Mickey Chan (75) was 58th at 230, Michael Yang (74) placed 66th at 233 and Zack Duan (79) finished 74th at 237.

UCI hosts the 32nd annual Anteater Invitational Apr. 23-24 at Shady Canyon Golf Club.
