SEASIDE, Calif. --- The UC Irvine men's golf team finished eighth in the Saint Mary's Invitational that concluded Tuesday at Bayonet Golf Course in Seaside.
UCI, competing in its season opener, had a 54-hole total of 912 in the 15-team tournament. Oregon won the title at 853, UAB was second with 866 and Saint Mary's finished third at 881.
Junior Michael Yang led the 'Eaters with a 28th-place finish of 224 after a final-round 75. Sophomore Allan Jun also shot 75 Tuesday and placed 33rd at 227.
Redshirt freshman Pete Fernandez (73) was 46th at 230, junior Mickey Chan (79) 66th at 238 and redshirt sophomore Ryan Knapp (83) finished 73rd at 240.
Chris Russo of Cal State Northridge was medalist at 9-under 207 after shooting a 70 in the last round.
UCI returns to action in the Golfweek Conference Challenge Sunday through Tuesday (Sept. 25-27) at Spirit Hollow Golf Club in Burlington, Iowa.
