UC Irvine Places Ninth in Asics/UCI Invitational

Final Results

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine placed ninth in the Asics/UCI Invitational under unsettled skies at the Anteater Recreation Center (ARC) Fields Saturday morning.

Cal Poly won the 16-team competition with 38 points, Azusa Pacific was second with 59 and Long Beach State third with 106.  UCI totaled 214 points.

Senior Melissa Mead led the Anteaters with a 24th-place finish of 18:26.5 over 5,000-meters in the 192-runner field.

Lauren Jimison of Azusa Pacific won the race with a course-record time of 17:20.4.

UCI redshirt junior Chloe Fata placed 36th in 18:46.2, Kaycee Holcomb was 42nd in 18:54.6 and Maggie Newton-Neal 48th in 19:01.8.

Maggie McDuffee finished 79th in 19:27.4, Shelley Foerster was 91st in 19:39.8 and Mary Follo 92nd in 19:40.2 to complete UCI's top seven.

The Anteaters travel to Mammoth for a week of training before returning to competition Sept. 24 at the Stanford Invitational.
