3 `Eater Alums Score in Team USA's Win over South Africa

 

SHANGHAI, China ---

Three UC Irvine alums scored in the USA Men's National Team's 20-3 win over South Africa in the FINA World Championships at Shanghai, China, Thursday.

Tim Hutten scored three goals, Ryan Bailey two and Jeff Powers one in the American victory.

Bailey started the scoring for the U.S. less than 30 seconds into the game and Powers' goal gave the Americans a 5-0 lead after one quarter.

Bailey scored first again to open the second period and Hutten then scored back-to-back goals for an 8-0 lead.

Hutten scored his third goal in the fourth quarter.

Team USA has secured a third-place finish in Group D and has a preliminary matchup against Canada Sunday at 1:50 a.m. (PT).

Bailey has played on the last three U.S. Olympic teams, Powers the past two and Hutten was on the 2008 squad. The three alums each earned multiple All-America honors while competing for the `Eaters.
