No. 8 UC Irvine Falls at Fourth-Ranked Cal, 14-6

 

BERKELEY, Calif. --- UC Irvine scored first but fourth-ranked California built an 8-3 halftime lead en route to a 14-6 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation victory over the No. 8 'Eaters Sunday at Spieker Aquatics Complex in Berkeley.

UCI's Mitch Wise opened the scoring on a goal with 6:31 left in the first quarter before the Bears scored four straight to go up 4-1 after the initial period.

Cal outscored the 'Eaters 4-2 in the second quarter and went on to claim the win.

Sam Figueroa led UCI (13-9, 1-4 MPSF) with a game-high three goals and Alex Kazmier had seven saves in goal.

Four players scored two goals each for the Bears, who improved to 16-3 overall and 4-1 in the conference.

The 'Eaters play their next three games at home, beginning Thursday night at 7:00 against Long Beach State in an MPSF and "Black & Blue" rivalry game.
