Pete Fernandez Tied for Second at Alister MacKenzie Invitational

FAIRFAX, Calif. --- UC Irvine redshirt freshman Pete Fernandez is tied for second place after the first two rounds of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational at The Meadow Club in Fairfax.

Fernandez fired a 7-under par 64 in the first round Monday and carded a 3-under 68 in the second round for a 10-under total of 132 entering Tuesday's final round.  The 64 is the lowest round by a UCI player since All-American John Chin shot a similar score at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in April 2010.

Eugene Wong of Oregon leads the MacKenzie field at 14-under 128 (65-63).  Max Homa of California is tied for second with Fernandez after rounds of 66-66.

UCI's Michael Yang is in 57th place at 145 (73-72), Mickey Chan is 62nd at 146 (73-73), while Zack Duan and Ryan Knapp are tied for 72nd place at 149 after identical rounds of 74-75.

Oregon is the team leader at 30-under 538, California is second at 540, and San Diego State and USF are tied for third at 544.  UCI is in 15th place at 572.
