A SEASON TO REMEMBER

UCI ended the year 24-8 overall and 10-6 in the Big West.

The Anteaters 24 wins tied the school record for wins, matching the 2009 squad who went 24-10.

The team's .750 winning percentage was 37th best in the country.

The Anteaters were third in the Big West standings, the highest finish since the club was second in 2009.

UCI was one of three Big West schools (Cal Poly, UCI and Hawaii) to register 20+ win seasons, a feat not done since 2012.

The Anteaters advanced to the quarterfinals of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship, falling to Texas Tech, 3-1.

It was the first postseason appearance since 2004. The Anteaters advanced to the Elite 8 with a 3-0 sweep of Sacramento State then a 3-2 victory over Pacific in Stockton.

The two postseason victories are the most in program history. UCI's previous win beyond the regular season was a victory over Missouri in the 2003 NCAA Tournament in head coach Ashlie Hain's junior year.

In the final game against Texas Tech, Haley DeSales led UCI with 14 kills and 11 digs, her 11th double-double of the year to go with two aces. Harlee Kekauoha added 13 kills.

UCI was 6-2 on neutral courts, winning both the Molten Classic and Marcia E. Hamilton Classic to start the year.

DeSales was named MVP of the Molten Classic with Ali Koumelis earning all-tournament honors. Kekauoha was named Tournament Most Valuable Player at the Marcia E. Hamilton Classic, while DeSales and Idara Akpakpa were named to the all-tournament team.

The Anteaters started the year with a 12-1 record, best start in program history.

Harlee Kekauoha, Idara Akpakpa and Haley DeSales were named to the All-Big West first team, while Ali Koumelis and Luna Tsujimoto were honorable mention selections.

Kekauoha became the fifth Anteater player to be named All-Big West first team three consecutive years.

The opposite became the 14th player to eclipse the 1,000 kill mark. She ranks 13th in the UCI career records with 1,026 in her two+ years. She also ranks fourth in aces (129) all-time.

Two other players can be found in the career record books. Libero Luna Tsujimoto ends her career fourth in digs with 1,353 and Ali Koumelis is 10th in set assists at 1,425.  The duo also moved in to the top 10 in the season lists with 478 digs (9th) and 1,190 (6th) set assists this season.

During the season, UCI garnered three Big West weekly awards. Harlee Kekaoha was honored on Sept. 10 and Oct. 9. Makayla Wolfe was named Big West Women's Volleyball Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 27, the first Big West player to earn both honors in the same week.

The Anteaters ranked 26th nationally in aces with a 1.55 average. UCI fired a season-high 10 aces against Seattle U. Kekauoha was ranked 36th nationally with a 0.41 ace average. She had a career-best five aces versus Cal State Fullerton, the second most in the league.

UCI led the Big West in aces and was third in kills (13.45), assists (10.26), hitting percentage (.243), and opponents' hitting percentage (.197).
