• Men’s basketball split a pair of games last week beating Black & Blue rival Long Beach State Thursday before suffering a narrow 71-69 loss to UC San Diego on Saturday. Senior Kyle Evans had a pair of double-doubles last week, averaging 13.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks over two games. He leads the country with 96, moving into second on the Big West single season block list, passing Pacific’s Michael Olowokandi at 95 (1997-98) following last week’s action. He is now chasing Mamadou Ndiaye’s school and Big West record of 106.
• In a pivotal week for the Big West standings, UC Irvine will travel to CSUN, who is now tied with the Anteaters and Hawaii at the top of the standings at 11-5, on Thursday (Feb. 26) before returning home to host UC Santa Barbara, who is 10-7 in the standings, on Saturday (Feb. 28) at the Bren Events Center. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU at 7:30 p.m. Homecoming festivities will take place outside of the Bren prior to the game so please note some road closures will be in effect.
• Women's basketball (23-4, 14-2 Big West) went 2-0 last week to reclaim the lead in the Big West standings. After defeating Long Beach State, 77-62, at the Bren Events Center, the Anteaters headed south to La Jolla for a first-place showdown at UC San Diego. The 'Eaters fell behind early but erased a 13-point deficit to take down the Tritons, 70-68. Jada Wynn led all players with 20 points, while Hunter Hernandez sparked a third-quarter comeback where she had 11 of her 18 points. This week, UCI will honor both Hernandez and Wynn in a Senior Ceremony following their regular-season home finale against CSUN on Thursday, Feb. 26.
• UC Irvine remains among the top-10 in all of NCAA Division I women's basketball in free throw percentage (5th, 79.6%), free throws made (17th, 17.0/gm), and field goal percentage defense (7th, 34.9%). UCI, which has scored 70+ points in each of its last four games, also ranks first in the Big West in both scoring offense (72.0 ppg) and scoring defense (57.0 ppg).
• Following a week off, the fourth ranked men’s volleyball team (12-1) returns to action hosting No. 1 UCLA (12-0) Friday (Feb. 26) at 7:00 p.m. at the Bren Events Center. Middle blocker Trevor Clark leads the nation with a .583 hitting percentage and is 15th in blocks per set (1.13). Freshman outside hitter Andrej Jokanovic is fifth in the Big West and 26th nationally in kills with a 3.50 average.
• Baseball started the home portion of their 2026 season with four games going 2-2. A 5-2 win over San Diego State Wednesday followed by nine strikeouts over 8.1 innings Friday by Trevor Hansen for a 5-3 win had the team 5-0. UCI would fall on Saturday and Sunday to California to lose the series, however junior first baseman Alonso Reyes was named Big West Field Player of the Week after hitting .643 with six RBIs, three runs, a triple, and a stolen base last week. They continue with a 5-2 record and two more home games, Tuesday, February 24 and Wednesday, February 25, vs. Grand Canyon before participating in the Live Like Lou Las Vegas College Baseball Classic this weekend in Las Vegas where they square off with No. 25 Vanderbilt (Feb. 27 at 2:00 PM), Oregon (Feb. 28 at 12:00 PM), and Arizona (Mar. 1 at 3:00 PM) for a star-studded weekend in the finale before Big West play begins.
• Women's water polo (5-9, 1-0 Big West) won its Big West opener, defeating UC San Diego, 14-10, at Anteater Aquatics Complex last Friday. Lauren Hett led the way with four goals, while Michelle Urkov and Deirdre Murphy each added a hat trick. Ella Walker also finished with nine saves. UCI is back at home this weekend, hosting a pair of Big West games against Hawai'i (Feb. 27) and UC Davis (March 1).
• Men's tennis went 2-0 on their home courts this past weekend as they earned a pair of 4-3 wins over Saint Mary's and San Diego State. Hiroki Sakagawa led the way, winning both of his matches at the top of the singles lineup. He delivered the match-clinching point against SDSU after victories from Sohrob Amiryavari, Greg Gamal, and Ruining Huang gave the ‘Eaters a 3-2 lead. Gamal and Huang also won their respective singles matches against the Gaels.
• Women’s golf is competing at the Bruin Wave Invitational at the Valencia Country Club Monday and Tuesday.
• Women's tennis had a 2-0 week winning matches over Portland (4-3) and Pacific (6-1) at home to rise to 4-4 as a team this year. Haily Huynh, Maily Huynh, and Bella Pitchford each led the charge winning their singles matches in each victory. The Anteaters prepare for a road matchup Thursday at Occidental before a surge of four home matches in five days next week starting Monday, March 2 at 1:30 p.m. vs. Bowling Green.
• Men's golf is underway at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, Feb. 23-25. The Anteaters will play one round each day with an 8 a.m. shotgun start at the Classic Club.
• Women's indoor track & field, which set five school records in four regular-season meets, will be back in action at the MPSF Championships on Sunday and Monday (March 1-2).
