MALIBU, Calif. - Sophomore Andy Nguyen was unable to pull off a second-straight upset, falling in the Round of 16 Friday at the ITA Sectional Championships at Pepperdine's Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
 
After defeating No. 125 Nicholas Godsick of Stanford yesterday, Nguyen was pitted against his second-straight ranked opponent. He ended up falling to No. 96 Alexander Hoogmartens of UCLA, 6-3, 6-1. In his two tournaments this fall, Nguyen is 2-2 against players ranked among the top-125 in the nation.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Six Anteaters were also in Los Angeles for the first day of the LMU Invitational Friday at LMU Tennis Center.
 
UC Irvine started the day by winning five of six singles matches against Utah. Rithvik Krishna improved to 5-2 on the season with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Reid Jarvis. Sohrob Amiryavari also picked up his fifth win as he took down Charles Frey, 6-2, 6-3.
 
Max Fardanesh made quick work of Gianluca Citadini, 6-2, 6-2, while Ruining Huang upended Dylan Applegate, 6-1, 7-5. Lawee Sherif bounced back from a first-set loss to defeat Emmett Potter, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
 
Krishna and Huang had UCI's lone doubles win against Denver, defeating Ryoma Mishiro/Samuel Rovai, 8-5. Sherif/Fardanesh and Mason Bui/Amiryavari played their opponents tight but fell 8-6 and 9-7, respectively.
 
The 'Eaters are back in action in Los Angeles tomorrow as they are set to square off against host LMU in doubles at 12 p.m., with singles against Denver to follow.
