Celebrating The Life Of Len Miller

On Monday (May 15) at 11:00 a.m. at the Irvine Barclay Theatre, family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of legendary head coach Len Miller. UC Irvine Athletics remembers the man that created two powerhouse programs and helped put the Anteaters on the map.

Len Miller coached the UCI men’s cross country and track & field teams from 1974-79. 
 
He guided the Anteater men to NCAA Division II cross country championships in 1975 and 1976 and to the university’s first Division I conference title in 1977 when UCI won the Pacific Coast Athletic Association cross country crown.

Miller's 1976 men’s track and field team won the NCAA Division II championship and he was named NCAA Coach of the Year that season.  His 1977 track and field squad finished as NCAA Division II runner-up.  In 1978, the first year of Division I competition, he led UCI to a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Track & Field Championships.

Miller coached eight cross country All-Americans and 28 track and field All-Americans during his tenure at UCI, including Steve Scott, Ralph Serna, Maurico Bardales and Micheal Sabatino.

A graduate of UCLA, Miller coached prep teams at Porterville and Laguna Beach before coming to UCI.

2006-HOF-Inductees

He was inducted into the UCI Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006 and was joyfully surrounded by former student-athletes at the 2023 Induction Celebration.
