Antone, a right-handed pitcher, picked up two wins to help UC Irvine go 3-1 last week.

Antone made his second career start on Tuesday (May 17) against No. 23 UCLA and limited the Bruins to one run on three hits, while striking out two in 3.2 innings pitched. He set the tone for an Anteater staff that scattered only seven hits in the 8-1 victory. The win gave the ‘Eaters a season sweep over UCLA, while they also improved to 5-2 against Pac-12 teams. In addition, it secured the program’s 19th winning campaign in the last 21 years.

On Sunday, May 22, Antone came out of the bullpen to throw two scoreless innings in a 6-3 win against CSU Bakersfield. He entered the game in the top of the sixth with the score tied at 3-3, and after keeping the Roadrunners off the board, UCI scored in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead for good. Antone improved to 4-0 in his Anteater career.

On the week, Antone did not allow a run and struck out five in 5.2 innings pitched.

UC Irvine is back in action this weekend, making the short trip to Cal State Fullerton for its final regular-season series, May 26-28.

Mkrtchian went 3-0 at No. 4 singles to help the ‘Eaters to their first conference tournament title since 2011. In the opening round, he delivered the match-clinching point in UCI’s 4-2 win over UC Davis. The Reseda, California, native dropped the first set against Andras Necz, and found himself down, 5-2, in the second but continued to battle, winning a deuce point to save match point at 5-2 and 5-3. He carried that momentum all the way to a 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-2 victory.

The following day, Mkrtchian took control from the start, defeating Cal Poly’s Fernando Fonseca, 6-4, 6-3, in the semifinals. His point gave the ‘Eaters a 3-0 lead in an eventual 4-0 triumph.

On championship Sunday, Mkrtchian had another resilient performance against UC Santa Barbara’s Kai Brady, who he had lost to earlier in the year. After splitting the first two sets, Mkrtchian trailed 6-5 in the final frame before finding another gear to emerge with the 6-4, 0-6, 7-6 (4) victory. That shifted the momentum back to the Anteaters as it brought them even at 2-2 before they closed out the 4-2 upset over the 55th-ranked Gauchos.

UC Irvine will open the NCAA Tournament with a first-round match against 17th-ranked San Diego on Friday, May 6. First serve is set for 10 a.m. at USC’s Marks Stadium.

Ingebritson inherited runners on second and third, but stepped up to the challenge, quickly getting a strikeout and a pop up to preserve the one-run lead. The graduate student stayed on the mound to close out the game, earning the save in the 4-3 victory.

Two days later, Ingebritson retired all eight batters he faced on 20 pitches. Grand Canyon went up 4-3 with one out in the seventh, before Ingebritson entered the game and once again stifled the Lopes’ offense.
