Loryn Carter Dominates In Victory Over Idaho State

Box Score BOISE, Idaho – UC Irvine had four players record double-figure kills to beat Idaho State (25-27, 25-15, 26-24, 25-22) the Boise State Classic Friday afternoon.

The Anteaters were led by Loryn Carter's career-high 18 kills.

UCI (3-8) out-hit (.280-168), dug (57-51) and blocked (10-5) the Bengals.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>Following Carter were Makayla Wolfe and Abby Marjama with 12 kills each and Onye Ofoegbu with a career-high 10 kills. Ofeogbu also had a team-best six blocks
>Marjama led the team with a career-high 20 digs
>Setter Kelly Negron had 47 set assists, while libero Chloe Owens added 18 digs
>Idaho State was led by Raegan Steiner's 11 kills

TURNING POINTS
FIRST SET

>Idaho State charged out of the gates with a 5-0 lead and continued to lead 17-10
>UCI mounted a comeback closing to 22-21 on a block by Onye Ofoegbu and Abby Marjama
>After a Bengal service error, a kill by Ofoegbu and an Idaho State attack error tied the score at 23-23
>The teams would trade points until Brooke Pehron recorded back-to-back kills for the 27-25 ISU victory

SECOND SET
>An 8-1 run by the Anteaters which included two kills by Makayla Wolfe and was capped by a Laura Butler ace put UCI in front 10-3
>A 9-3 spurt extended the advantage to 22-11
>Ofoegbu would end the set with a kill, 25-15
>Loryn Carter took over the set with 6 kills

THIRD SET
>The teams would remain close until a kill by Carter was followed by a block by Carter and Wolfe and a kill by Cassie Stewart to move UCI out front 21-19
>ISU would close to 23-22 on a UCI service error, but a Marjama kill would give the Anteaters set point, 24-22
>The Bengals would score the next two to tie the set at 24 all
>Following a UCI  timeout, a kill by Marjama was followed by a Bengal attack error to give the Anteaters a 26-24 victory

FOURTH SET
>Kills by Stewart, Wolfe and Carter pushed UCI out to a 3-1 lead
>Another 3-0 swing which included kills by Marjama, Sophie Wood and Ofoegbu gave UCI an 18-13 advantage
>The Bengals would rally to get within 18-17 before a block by Wood and Ofoegbu sparked a 4-0 spurt which ended with an ace by Kelly Negron
>A kill by Carter would win the set 25-22 and the match 3-1

NOTES
>This is the first time UCI has out-hit an opponent this season
>It is the third time Carter has led the team in kills this season
>It is the first time this season UCI has had four players record double-digit kills in the same match
