HONOLULU, Hawai'i --- Anteater baseball was unable to get anything going Friday evening at Les Murakami Stadium faltering in its Big West opener, 10-2, to Hawai'i.
Hawai'i Hitting
The Rainbow Warriors (11-14, 1-0) got to Anteater starter
Andre Pallante early with a pair of runs each in the second and third innings. UH's second inning was helped along by a low throw from Pallante at second base as he tried to start a double play to end the inning. Tyler Murray would make that play haunt the 'Eaters doubling over
Mike Peabody's head to put UH up, 2-0, after two innings. UH doubled their lead with two more runs in the third on an Ethan Lopez single and Dallas Duarte sac fly for a 4-0 Hawai'i lead after three.
Lewis Loving It
Third baseman
Brandon Lewis had a hot night even as he started with a line drive out in the first inning. He replicated that in his next two at-bats earning a double and single from them. He would use some smart baserunning to score the Anteaters' (16-5, 0-1) first run in the fourth inning on a wild pitch. He walked in the seventh inning which also drew a wild pitch and scoring the second Anteater run in a game seemingly out of reach at that point.
The 6th Inning
Hawai'i big crooked inning was produced mostly by the Anteaters.
Andre Pallante was finally driven from the game, and he,
Alonzo Garcia, and
Kaz Akamatsu gave up five walks between then. With two runs home in the inning, Ethan Lopez returned to shovel a heap of dirt onto the Anteaters' grave in the six-run sixth inning by way of a three-run triple.
Final Score: Hawai'i 10, No. 19 UC Irvine 2
Lewis reached base three times including two hits and a run as the 'Eaters and Rainbow Warriors each finished with seven hits on the night. Lopez plated four runs for UH along with his two hits as every hitter in the Hawai'i lineup would cross home plate.
Pitchers of Record
Andre Pallante dropped to 4-2 on the season last a batter into the sixth inning with five hits, four walks, and four earned runs to his record. He also failed to record a strikeout for the first time in his career as a starter. Aaron Davenport scored his first collegiate win allowing four hits and a run over 5.1 IP.
