Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week
11/20/2019

UC Irvine Athletics has continued its support of Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week and the Big West Cares initiative with participation in several events.
Most recently, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and fellow student-athletes decorated special care package duffle bags for foster youth.
"It's an honor to give back to the community and to those who are less fortunate," said UCI men's soccer player Jordan Martinez. "From the team, and from me personally coming from a less fortunate area, it is a special feeling helping them see a dream and give them hope."
The Anteater men’s and women’s cross country/track & field teams also spent a Saturday morning volunteering at the Second Harvest Food Bank in Orange County, assisting with cleaning, organizing, restocking, and loading/unloading food items.
“Being able to volunteer means us, as a team, get to give back to our community and aid those who are less fortunate,” said freshman sprinter Shaelyn Amos. “I am glad our team was able to come together for this wonderful opportunity.”
The ‘Eaters will return to Second Harvest Food Bank for another volunteer day on Feb. 1.
