First Team Honors

The 'Eaters placed two players on the All-Big West First Team for a fourth straight season and eighth time in the last nine years in a pair of seniors, Aleah Kelley and Jessica Miclat

Jessica Miclat, a senior midfielder, is on the team for the first time since her freshman season when she was on the All-Freshman Team. She's stayed consistent with a goal in each season as an Anteater as she leads all current 'Eaters in all offensive categories with six goals, seven assists, and 19 points playing in 73 career matches.

She burst out for her best season in 2019 with two goals, four assists, and eight points while starting all 18 matches. Her two goals came against ranked opponents Texas Tech and BYU adding her first two-assist match in a win over rival Long Beach State

Aleah Kelley, a fifth-year defender, settled back into her role after starting the season off as an attacker. She helped provide stability to the defense in 2019 assisting in three shutouts, and built on her successful career spanning 72 matches where she scored once and assisted three times from the backline for five points.

Kelley makes the team for a second time in her career after also receiving first team accolades in 2018. Kelley had two of her three career assists this season while starting all 18 matches. She finished as the overall team leader with 1,651 minutes played.

The captains actually finished 1-2 in minutes played on the season finishing with the exact same number of minutes played over their careers with 5,592

All-Big West Second Team 2019

Second Team Honors

One Anteater stood alone on the All-Big West Second Team, the ninth straight season with an 'Eater represented on the second team and 12th time in head coach Scott Juniper's 13 seasons in the form of Scarlett Camberos

Scarlett Camberos, a sophomore midfielder, was UC Irvine's primary offensive threat in 2019 with an awakening following a freshman campaign where she played in 19 matches but did not register a point.

The Bonita-native got on the board in September scoring in consecutive matches against Northern Colorado, a game-winner, and Arizona State. She did it again to start conference play with an assist on the game-winning overtime goal to beat UC Riverside, and following that up with a goal and an assist in a 2-1 win over UC Davis. She finished the season with a flurry scoring and then assisting on the game-tying goal in a comeback effort to draw with UC Santa Barbara.

Camberos finished atop the team in goals with four and points with 11. Her three assists were second behind first-teamer Jessica Miclat, and she was one of the four Anteaters to earn a game-winning goal in UCI's four wins

All-Big West Honorable Mention 2019

Honorable Mention Honors

The final honoree for 2019 was an historic one with goalkeeper Maddie Newsom rounding out the honorees on the All-Big West Honorable Mention team.

Maddie Newsom becomes the second Anteater in program history to earn a spot on the All-Big West team in all four years joining All-American Tanya Taylor from 2007-10. It's her third appearance on the honorable mention squad as she did as a freshman and sophomore before breaking the trend as a junior on the first team and Big West Goalkeeper of the Year.

Newsom had a down year in terms of her standards making 13 starts in the 18 matches earning three wins, two draws, two shutouts, and stopping 54 shots. She and her squad were the only team to hold Cal State Fullerton scoreless on the season as well. She picked up her third career Big West Defensive Player of the Week honor to begin conference play with wins over UC Riverside and UC Davis.

Newsom added an assist in the season finale giving her four for her career and six points, both new NCAA records surpassing Baylor GK Dawn Greathouse who had five points from a goal and three assists in her career.

Over her career, she's joined some illustrious company becoming the all-time leader for UCI keepers in matches started with 74 and minutes played with 7,002. She fell one short of Stephanie Boes' career match mark at 75, and her 270 saves rank her third all-time, also one short of tying coach and Anteater great Danielle de Seriere's 271 for second all-time.

Newsom put up at least 50 saves in every season, 1 of 3 Anteaters to do that, including single-game highs of nine saves twice as a junior against Washington and San Diego. Her four-year career gave her the fourth-best goals-against-average at 1.04, third-most wins with 34, and third-most shutouts with 20 in addition to four combined shutouts.

Maddie Newsom stood tall between the posts scoring her first two wins of the season to put the 'Eaters atop the Big West standings. Newsom stopped six shots to shutout UC Riverside in double overtime Thursday night, and followed that up with a 2-1 victory and one save Sunday afternoon to down UC Davis.

Newsom picked up career wins Nos. 32 and 33 along with shutout No. 19 to get UCI back in the win column after just one non-conference victory. She made her 68th career start on Senior Day at Anteater Stadium, and her seven saves on the week give her 245 for her illustrious career.

The honor is the first for the team on the season while Newsom, who was the 2018 Big West Goalkeeper of the Year, earns her third weekly honor joining the two she picked up as a junior
