Palacios, Mexico U20 Women's World Cup Quest Ends in Quarterfinals

PORT MORESBY, PNG --- The under-20 women's World Cup run ended in the quarterfinals of the knockout round stage for Mexico and Anteater Kiana Palacios.
Mexico squared off with the United State late Thursday night, and after attaining a 1-0 lead in the 66th minute, El Tri would concede in the 81st minute and again in stoppage time to fall, 2-1, and give the U.S. the pass into the semifinals.
Palacios was held scoreless, but managed three goals in the three group stage matches, as Mexico won two of them, to lead the club and be the only Mexican player with multiple goals.
Palacios was named Player of the Match in the 3-2 victory over Venezuela to clinch a knockout round spot. She scored twice in the first 10 minutes to put Mexico over the top. Palacios' third goal came in the opener of the tournament putting away an insurance tally in the 89th minute to drop Korea Republic, 2-0.
