A Night With Kobe Bryant
Sept. 28, 2010
Irvine, Calif. - On September 23, UC Irvine student-athletes had a special opportunity to attend a Q&A session with five-time NBA champion and Olympic gold medalist Kobe Bryant.
UCI head men's volleyball coach John Speraw, who met Bryant at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, served as the moderator for the evening and invited the NBA MVP to speak to the student-athletes.
Following a few opening questions by Speraw, the floor was opened to the student-athletes who were impressed with Bryant's candid answers.
"He was really funny and open," women's basketball player Raquel Theus said. "I think the thing I remember the most is his favorite quote `Rest at the end and not in the middle.' I like that it came from his high school English teacher."
All-American track athlete Charles Jock thought the opportunity to get inside the star's mind was valuable. "It was nice to see his personality and find out what motivates him."
After two hours of answering questions, which ranged from his training regimen/nutrition to his friends, Bryant posed for photos with each team.
