IRVINE, Calif. --- Sophomore Keston Hiura has been voted a third-team preseason All-American by Perfect Game.
The 2015 Big West Freshman of the Year, Hiura drove in a conference-leading 52 runs and led the Big West with 118 total bases. Peppering the opposition with 75 hits, Hiura batted .330 and also logged a .520 slugging percentage. Hiura, who did not miss a start in 56 games, led UCI with 18 doubles and two triples while finishing second with seven home runs and 40 runs scored.
Following his freshman campaign, Hiura collected All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Associate and Perfect Game.
Hiura had a standout summer with the Wenatchee AppleSox, owning the league's second-highest average at .356 with 42 runs batted in. He made his mark in the AppleSox single-season records with 21 doubles, six triples, 33 extra-base hits and 119 total bases. Hiura etched his name in the West Coast League annals as well after reaching safely in 41 consecutive games for a new mark.
The Anteaters will host their annual Alumni Game, Jan. 30 at Anteater Ballpark and begin the season Feb. 19 with a four-game series at San Jose State.
