NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. --- The 10th annual Newport Beach Boat Parade started up on Wednesday, and UC Irvine Athletics were front and center Thursday evening aboard university's vessel.
Student-athletes, spirit squad, the Anteater Band, and even Peter the Anteater helped the campus celebrate this 50th Anniversary with a spirit rally through the harbor riding a UCI-themed boat fully-decorated with a "UCI @ 50" light display and an inflatable Peter the Anteater guiding the way.
Kelly Magana - Track & Field: "I had so much fun last night at the boat parade with other student-athletes and VIP guests. Being the only "UC in the OC", we received a lot of support from the Newport community, had a great time showing them how to "Zot" with us, and having them join us in the "Rip 'Em 'Eaters" chant was fun!"
Victoria Dennis - Women's Volleyball: "Representing UCI in the Newport Beach Boat Parade for UCI's 50th birthday was so much fun and a great experience. Having out band on board really got the spectators going! Also, being able to be the MC for the last part of the parade was an experience I'll never forget! Thank you to everybody who made this happen!"
Danielle de Seriere - Women's Soccer alum and assistant coach: "Being a part of the University of California, Irvine on its 50th Anniversary is pretty special. As an alumni, former student-athlete, and current coach, it was a great feeling to represent the university at an event such as the Newport Beach Boat Parade, The student-athletes, pep squad, and the Anteater Band all carried a sense of pride during those chilly three hours, and it was wonderful to see."
UCI's float will cruise the harbor nightly through Saturday, December 19th which each parade starting promptly at 6:30 p.m.
