UC Irvine Debuts Innovative Amazon Alexa Skill

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine Athletics announced Monday its release of the "UC Irvine Athletics" skill for Amazon Alexa. The Skill allows UC Irvine fans to interact with their Amazon Alexa devices, such as the Echo, Dot, Echo Show, and more to receive news, results, and upcoming events for all 18 Anteater athletic programs.

"This is great work coming from our IT and digital and social media team in collaboration with Amazon," Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing & Community Engagement Robby Ray said. "When the Amazon Alexa development team reached out after our first attempt at a flash briefing, we were thrilled to have their support in developing the skill from an NCAA Division I Athletic Department."

The skill offering UC Irvine fans an unprecedented ease of access to the information they want about Anteater Athletics. With a simple voice command, you can enable the skill on any Alexa-enabled device, prompting fans to select the type of information they seek: team headlines, previous results, or upcoming events, then allow them to receive that information from any sport they choose.

"With the growth in voice technology, we are excited to continue to innovate and create new opportunities for our fans to connect with UCI in ways that integrate with their day-to-day lives. We look forward to continuing to build on the features and capabilities of our Skill in the future."

The skill will also guide users through their voice experience, making it easy to switch between information types, teams, or to start the process over again from the beginning.

Fans who have an Amazon Alexa-enabled device can simply enable the UC Irvine Athletics skill here. Once enabled, fans can open the skill by saying "Alexa, open 'Eater Nation." From there, users will easily navigate between sports and information types using Alexa's guidance.
