Irvine, Calif. – Three Anteaters were honored for their 2016 accomplishments as All-Big West teams and awards were announced today.
Sarah Gong was named to the singles first-team for the second time in her Anteater career. The senior went won seven dual matches on the season with a 4-3 record in Big West competition in the No 1 spot. Gong had previously been named to the first-team in 2014. This is the 18th straight season an Anteater has appeared on the All-Big West singles first team. Gong also earned a spot on the singles second team in 2015.
Vivien Dvali made her first appearance on the All-Big West honors list as the sophomore was named to the singles second-team. Dvali made a run at the end of the season winning seven of her last ten singles matches including five in the Big West.
Mazy Watrous and Gong were named to the doubles second team, representing a first-time for Watrous and Gong's second-time having been named to the doubles second team in 2014. The duo shined this season in an upset of the nationally ranked No. 15 pair Stefani Stojic and Palina Dubavets of UC Santa Barbara.
UC Irvine finished 6-15 on the season with a 4-4 record in the Big West.
